in 2026 I'm writing back here to let everyone know that it's not hard at all to set up your own stripe account to avoid more than double the fees that ko-fi, buyyourowncoffee, and others take. crazy. I understand you're paying for the "discovery" that would not have otherwise happened, but if Apple inc can be pressured to not take a large cut of everything with the same logic these independent "donation" platforms should do the same and reduce their cut. perhaps a sliding scale so that smaller, less exposed profiles don't lose as much to fees. If you can prove that the increased "revenue" are coming from your platform and the discovery and exposure it has, then fine, take your cut.
